As we said in The Inshore Slam Part 1 blog, the term “Inshore Slam” means to catch three species of fish in the same day; the Snook, Redfish and Trout. Part II of my “Inshore Slam” series is on Redfish. One of the many things I am grateful for as a Tampa Bay charter captain is guiding my clients on a hunt for Redfish. The estuaries in and around Tampa Bay are loaded down with Redfish. I target these bronze beauties a few different ways.
- Spotting schools of Redfish in shallow water taking the stealthy approach. I have multiple ways of accomplishing this technique. Book a charter and I would love to show you.
- There are many dark water spots that are “holes” that Redfish usually hangout in. Through years of running Fishing Charters my experience leads me to know how to locate these and if they’re holding Redfish.
- My third approach is to locate areas in the estuaries where mangroves are growing out of oyster beds and drop into troughs. What I like about these areas is they typically produce a mixed bag of species typically producing Redfish, Snook and Trout (THE INSHORE SLAM) with bonus species like Flounder and Mangrove Snapper as well.
